Casa Leone venetian rezidence has been
converted into a classy and romantic boutique hotel located
into the historical old town of Chania. It a beautiful venetian
quarter is a web of atmospherics streets that tumble onto
a magnificent harbour with its 15th century light house "Faros".
Many of old buildings have been restored into chic resturants,
cafes, shops, bars and hotels making the old town lively
and colourful place. The cultural background of Chania is
very rich, first of all due to town's long history and its
interaction with many diverse civilizations in the past.
Sights as the Mosque of the "janissaries" (bult
17th century) the Great "Arsenal", the minaret
of Achmet Aga and many other remants of Turkish rules add
to Chania exotic charm.
Within the old town there is also the
Archaelogical Museum within historical and prehistorical
periods of the local history (Neolithic to Roman) and the
Naval History museum, as well as the Byzantine / Post-Byzantine
collection and a Folklore museum. Also, the city boasts
its historical Archive (the second most important in Creece),
a war museum, the house of E. Benizelos and the municipal
galery. Other interesting sights, the Fort Firca, the Gate
and Bulwark Subionara, the Gate of the Renier Mansion,
the Synagoge - Etz Hayyim in the Topanas District, has
been restored in recent years after falling into disrepair
during the post World War II era. The 1913 indoor market "Agora" a
large building based on the market of Marseille, is on
the edge of the old town. There are also several old churches-apart
from the Roman Cathredal and the Catholic church (Trimartiri).
During the summer period a variety of cultural events take
place on a daily basis. Theatrical plays, conserts and
several exhibitions from greek and foreign artists are
organizeed by the municipality or by individuals. Only
5 minutes walking from hotel is a sandy blue flag beach
of NEA CHORA, which separates the old port from the montern
quarter.
